Tawny Port- Very rich lighting at sunset of lake, fields and hills
Whispy clouds overt Mt Ranier at sunset
Sailor's Delight -Timberline Lodge, Northern Oregon, USA. A sunset is creating a fiery scene in the clouds. The clouds are on fire and the sky is hot, the Lava-like clouds cast no light on the ground but merely reflect what is going on over the horizon, outside of this scene. No sun is visible. In the mid ground are dark pine trees standing. In the foreground is the roof of a building with an unusual chimney.
Thistles At Sunset - Front and center we come upon three dried out, large thistle heads. Below there are additional thistles, semi blurred. Further out opens up a large mowed grass field, with the turns and tracks of the plowing equipment apparent in the remaining stubble. More distant is a large pond with the reflection of the setting sun reflected off its surface. Behind that, distant hills where we can see the sun itself moving toward sunset in an intense glowing white, yellow, orange and red ball.
A Foreboding Evening At Shire's Edge - A huge intense white-yellow orb glows on the horizon dispersing a strong orange-brownish light over the hills and surrounding scenes of this picture. The clouds, stretched thin in the sky, are overwhelmed by this light making them look more like brush strokes than something acquired through the lens of a camera. A well-manicured field dominates the foreground of the photo with a shack and farm implements at the field's edge.
Path Out Of Bondage - Sun low in the western sky creates fiery path across a becalmed ocean green vegetation appears in the right foreground and in the distance a layer of fog is moving towards shore taking advantage of the Sun's waning power.
Long Nights Journey Into Day - In the sky, looking more like the moon than the sun, is the cloud shrouded sun. Newly risen it lies behind pale shredded clouds. More wispy clouds on the right form the shape of a huge bird. The sky is dark blue and the light of the whole scene is dark as in twilight or very early morning in a sub zero climate. In the foreground lies a paved road leading deep into the terminus of the focal point. No vehicles can be seen on the road. It is desolate. To the right and behind a haphazard fence lies a shallow snow covering dotted with vegetation pushing through,
Rogue Elephant -The backdrop presents the colors of the coming day as the sun hovers just below the slopes of Mt Hood. Oranges and yellows fill the medium between black ground and dark blueish sky. Closer, and in front of the distant activity a cloud elephant is rampaging as he pulls a river of thick gaseousness that swirls behind him. In the foreground is the dark icy flooring of the Mt Hood parking lot.
Electric Transmission Towers With Sunset- Perforated clouds move like leukocytes to prevent the sun from regaining control over the beginning moments of the day. In the distance are dark sweeping hills towards which a brown and yellowish sun Is attempting to emerge. On the a far off slope at the right stand two small electrical transmission towers... quietly watching.
Tarkio Hollow -Low tree lined hills surround a small valley or Hollow. Above the hills, yet still low in the sky, the sun is rising all but obscured by a blanket of cloud cover. Pale yellow light cast illumination on the green fields in the foreground. Fields surround a small clutch of trees seated in a shallow depression.
Brush And Buttes - Last rays of the sun spark a red flame across background butte with foreground filled with dryland vegetation filling the foreground
An Early Morning Embrace - Rock formations at Arches National Park Utah clasp each other while bathed in rich morning light
Moonrise Over Monolith - Huge rock face with moon seen in sky behind
Morning Light Mojave Desert - Redish rocky formation in background catches the early light making the mountain look light it is on fire

Sunrise Sunset & Moon

A River Of Color

Belly Laugh Barn- An old gracefully falling apart large Red Barn with a speckled black and grey roof stands at the edge of a green field with grey clouds above. Barn looks unused but strangely has the sense of being well maintained, It has deteriorated with a sense of dignity rather than one of chaos. How many more years with it be there laughing at passerby's?
Sunrise At Rams Head Bar -Early morning light streams through the windows of the Rams Head bar in Timberline Lodge, Rows of bottles & glasses line the shelves after the windows but before the wooden bar. The sunrise's light bounces off, refracts against, and is absorbed by the glassware. A pull-down gate makes the hard liquor unobtainable as the bar is closed. A Ram's head is part of the metal filigree.
Coos Bay Pier Abandoned -
The Shining's Haunt-A large building is silhouetted by the evening's deep, dark sky. Large lights partially illuminate the front edifice of the building, and the roof. Cars are parked in the parking lot at the front of the building. The cars reflect, fitfully, the light from the building giving the vehicles a hard and dangerous reality. The whole scene is dangerous, but in the middle of the picture is a large open door out of which streams a warm fluid light beckoning you to enter. But to what fate ...?
Poor Windbreak Protection -Three scraggly, worn, spindly, leafless trees stand next to an old farmhouse whose edifice is falling off but whose structure implies a certain amount of structural strength. It is not collapsing into a heap.. Brown fields surround the house and. a grey gravel road runs past the house
Oasis In A Sea Of Stubble - A field of cropped dark yellow grass stretches out as far as the sky can see. Some remaining stands of grain in the front of the image betray that a many-acre grain crop had stood here not that long ago. The stubble left by the harvester is quite tall. In the middle of the field in the far distance is a small structure. Too small to be a living space, one wonders what its purpose is. A barbwire fence separates the roadway from the field. Will the field of stubble be turned under before the winter comes?
On the side of a building is pained a seated young man with a lit match in his hand. This implied Anarchist had redish-purple trousers, and a checked red and yellow shirt. A partially visible, large green buildings in the background and crisscrossing electric wires, grounds this image as a deeply urban one. One is left wondering what the intent of the artist was and how he was able to paint this provocative yet seemingly peaceful image.
At The Corner Of The Canola Field - Almost reachable clouds billow across the sky over. a seemingly solid yellow field ostretchingstreching out as far as the eye can see. In the foreground (the corner of the canola field), stands a small and very weathered storage shack. Its planks are bound together with ancient mosses and lichens. A mowed grass perimeter stretches from the lower left of the image diagonally to the miInright. At the picture's right lower corner tall grasses appear with brown tops & green shafts. Winds have bent the grasses over.
Elegance: The Copper Corner -An elegant corner of a room containing a tapered beaten copper chimney. To one side several plush and comfortable red cushioned chairs have between them a small lamp and table. The lamp reflects a warm light across the wooded floor. In the forefront of the image sits the partial image of a chair with a patterned back cushion and a well worked wooded chair arm. Halfway up the far wall runs a dark green tapestry intersected with multiple colors showing a forest scene with animals and forest flowers. This could be a room in any far flung English Manor.
Necanicum Slough -A calm river of water creates a canal in-between buildings and decks on each bank of the watery slough. The day is dark and grey as the sun is setting somewhere behind the lowering fog above the scene. Colorful apartments and houses make an appearance on the right side of the canal and lights festoon the balconies and array along the white picket fences running along the river. At the far end of the scene a strong looking, short bridge is set allowing traffic to pass from side to side. balconies
Elegant Relief -Elegantly folded towels line a stark green and white wall hanging on silver bathroom bars. On the green section of the wall, in a black/brownish fram, hangs a handwritten note with the drawn image of a flower. The greenish part of the wall is of a rough cloth and the white part of the wall is of very light green tiles. A dark brown and blue patten in the tile is found on the left and lower part of this bathroom scene. A toilet roll with its hanger is found at the bottom right of the image.
Sky Fire In Raleigh Hills -A sky seemingly on fire scatters raw, sharp, redish, chinks of clouds across the heavens in the early evening. Has the sun collided with something and this fire is its last show? It is like the last dying breath from Smaug's lungs, Smaug having been felled by a bowman's arrow, Below the drama above, lies the tranquil, shrouded local market, oblivious to the catastrophicfic show above. The Store provides shelter while the atmosphere resolves itself.
The Thin Filament Between You And The Donner Party -The scene is of a large room dominated by 3 huge window panels. The window panels are a crisscross of smaller windows fitted into wooden frames. On either side of the windows are multicolored drapes of an elegant, rich material. On the other side of the windows it is icy cold and a snow storm is raging blowing snow laden pine trees to and fro,. Ice clings to the outside edges of some of the windows. In the foreground, one is able to ascertain that there are an assortment of plush chairs and sofas. However the foreground is large dark. In the ceiling you can see the huge beams of wood that this building's structure is made of. In the middle of the ceiling is a half oval Art Deco light of orange hue, which looks like it is more for style than effect.
Too High To Jump Over - Cow And Moon -In the foreground a maverick cow grazes on the remaining harvest vegetation of last year's crop. His companion herd is someway away towards a farmhouse settlement. Juxtaposed with this single cow is a 2/3rds full moon at a great height above the pastoral scene below. The air appears calm and stable as we spy in the distance more farmhouses, a barn, and other settlements. It is early morning and the sun has not made a complete breakthrough in lighting up the area fully. Towards the back of the picture are velveteen hills smooth and flowing
A Former Miwok Camping Ground -This main room of the Ahwahnee Hotel is full of seating options. Plush chairs and sofas are arranged throughout the hall. At the left we see an exhibit of Miwok basket making examples. In the front of the picture is a large heavy wooded table with intricate inlays At the far end of the hall is a massive fireplace, and a table in front of it. A polished copper vessel with foliage in it sits on the table. On the right is a long expanse of a smooth wooded floor.
The Way We Live Now - COVID Crowds -A long room of a European styled resturant/cafe, stretches out before us. To the left is a bar with a white tiled counter circled by black bar stools. Looking down the image but on the front side of the interior, we see a series of shelves filled with bottles of wine. Different kinds of foods are seen lining the far side of the interior, including a refrigerated section. Two large glass front doors are found at the mid point of the image. Following right from the doors, we come to a long plush, red colored, bench type seating, that runs the complete wall. Tables and chairs are scattered around a seating area at the front of the image.
Espresso Overkill -A large copper arm curves out of a black counter space. At the end of the curve is found an espresso portafilter head with an espresso shot streaming out into a small green cup. Below the cup is a silver drainage plate with multiple holes of various sizes. A cloth rests on the counter to the right of the picture.
Yaquina Lighthouse.-In the distance, lightly obscured by retreating fog, a long promontory of green vegetation-covered rock runs out to the sea. At the end of this spit of land is a striking white lighthouse with a jet black turret. The rocky sides of the promontory's cliffs are exposed revealing chalky, and grey-brown colors. Huge individual rocks have separated themselves from the bulk of the promontor., Standing alone in the seawater these castoffs look like an irregular henge of ancient stones. In the foreground is a pleasant beach. Its smooth tan sandbanks touched by sea waves. The waves appear acceptable to the few birds that ply the edge of the surf looking for edible flotsam.
Bog Art -A very clean bathroom is festooned with a myriad of stickers, paint & graffiti covering everything except the walls, floors, ceiling, toilet, mirror and sink. The look is punk style with a sense of chaos, hardness... destruction. The elements of the room that are thus decorated use the dark but sober walls and floor as a frame to isolate the images from one another, giving one a pause to appreciate the hard drive of the punk style images. It is a balance. Chaos and calm.
Sun, Be Not Proud -The image focuses on the "remains of the day" being engulfed, the by smothering relentlessness of gathering clouds. The sun struggles for life, for continuance, The distant reddish pink glow shows, however that the sun is not long for the world. That the sun will be snuffed out in that firey pool, at this particular spot, on this particular day. It will be brought down as surely as night follows day. In the foreground it is dark. These items; trees, valleys, lodges, and even parts of the atmosphere itself, have already forgotten the sun. Though that sun had been their constant companion for the last 12 hrs. Soon the sun will be replaced. Lights will strike out from the windows. Man will be master then. But fear not, you solar monotheist. The orb will return. Rested and Refurbished you will know the sun again ...In all your pallor.

Flowing Colors

In The Shadow Of Mt Aix -The presentation, sharp focus, and proximity of 4 bright red Indian paintbrush flowers grabs our attention. Some flowers are in the process of opening and others fully opened. Behind & semi-blurred we can see other purple flowers and many more Paintbrushes dotting the whole field of wildflowers. In the distance there is the slope of an off camera high-ground, covered with the semi obscured forest of pine trees. In the far distance, the rugged rocky heights of Mt Aix stands, with patches of snow in-between its unassailable peaks.
Flowers And Fissures - In a wall of fractured rock with various colorings a healthy bed of pink/purple flowers clings to a small ledge spilling down to partially cover one of the supporting pieces of stone. Rusty looking stone lies below.
Living In A Tough Neighborhood -A bright yellow flower-encased plant, sits in the middle of roc. It is,perched on a small rocky ledge. The yellow plant is flourishing among the fissured, hard granite. The granite wall is sliced, with fractures as it, ever so slowly is ground down by the natural forces. Pressuring the heavy boulders into ever smaller particulate.
On The Slopes With Lupin - A large lupin flower, bursting with life in purple and white, dominates the scene. Its florets and leafy stalks are in sharp relief as a blurred background of, groves of trees, cleared slope, rolling hills and, in the great distance a snow capped mountain rises into the sky. White clouds are frozen in the sky over the far-off mountain.
Shooting Star - A bright Shooting Star flower (Western Columbine) floats in front of a blurred forest background. The flower is upheld by a tender fresh green stalk and darker green leaves provide a backdrop for the red and yellow flower.
Horton's Who - Two bright white multi florets early summer flowers dominate the center of this image. They are supported by two slender green stocks. On the forest floor are various grasses and vines and in the background are sawed pine tree logs
Ents at Isengard - Two large old trees, twisted in action, are perched on a small hill. It appears as if they are hurling something in the direction over the hill where our eyes cannot follow. They are surrounded by younger trees and bushes and the two trees their twisted feet exposed on top of the light brown soil. The bright blue shy has several clouds moving rapidly across it.
Pitman Mire -A wide expanse of vibrant grass and water creates a mire far out to the distance. At the far end of the saturated bog, running left to right are some variegated hills bursting with attractive trees. In the foreground are some green stocky plants with lacy flowering heads. The sky is filled with a thin layer of grey/blue clouds.
Untethered - A tumbleweed with spikey branches rests on a rocky incline. In the distance, medium-sized mountains are bathed in the variegated sunshine admitted by the mixed black and white clouds. Between the mountains and the tumbleweed is a long flat valley. All around the tumbleweed's perimeter are scrub and bushes
In The Shadow Of Climate Change - Fire Closure At Yosemite - A gathering of dried stocks with thistle-type crowns dominates the scene. The dried stocks are backed up by another plant's thin stems which have tiny dark green leaves. In the mid-ground on the left are some more, unusual bushes and other shrubs. The mountains surrounding this "plant mosaic" are obscured by a heavy amount of smoke in the air, This has been caused by fires burning throughout Yosemite National Park. The Park was closed to visitors because of the fires.
Purple Prose Amid The Rocks And Bones -m A purple flush of flowers adorn a short green plant settled in a bed of rocks, both big and small, with a scattering of old plant bones around. Spring has pushed this flowering plant out of the inhospitable surroundings to give a glimpse of abundant life to the barren Death Valley background. No doubt the plant's flourishing will be fleeting and in a few weeks the desert's searing heat will bring all such growth into crumbling desiccation that conceals next year's seeding
A Gracefull Regression -A stark bank of white trees line the end of a snow-covered field. Behind them is a second line of half-size red bushes, In the rear, a brown scrub-covered hillock with snowy patches rises to meet the blue sky. In front of the white trees is a field still covered in snow with irrigation apparatus lying idle and seemingly abandoned.
Jurassic Park - A vibrant old growth redwood forest begins at the foot of a large Redwood tree. All around this Redwood is a close of trees, trunks and branches. Looking up and to the distance it can be seen that fog is moving in and around the tops of the trees. Moss on the trunk of the main tree is testament to the high moisture content of this grove near the Pacific Ocean. Ferns litter the forest floor.
Marooned - In an expanse of dark reflective water, near shore, is found a living tree trunk with many small branches reaching out from the stump's top. On shore are some tough grasses and a bush. Across the waters lining the shore is a dense maroon grove of trees. The trees provide a reddish reflection on the far side shore and behind the trees are found some medium-sized hills. The skies are covered with a defined blanket of clouds.
Polka Dots Over Pigeon Point Lighthouse - Our eyes meet a dominant blue sky with clouds dotted through a large portion of it. Lower down there are the remnants of inland coastal fog. Further out on the pacific we cans see a thick blanket of fog waiting for the right atmospheric conditions that would allow the fog to move in and once more blanket the whole coastal area. The Pacific Ocean itself is quite blue. Following down the coast from right to left we find some rocks, costal cast offs, in the water. A little distance on is the Pigeon Point Lighthouse standing tall in a majestic white. Back up to the front of the image a spindly pant grows with bright yellow flowers.
The Last Patch Of Snow -Last year's dessicated and empty seed pods adorn a plant's spindly tops. A blurred patch of snow and forest floor are set in the background. The empty seed pods are bunched and resemble stars all bundled together. The plant itself gives one to believe that it is hibernating and will reemerge some months down the road. Bursting forth with new growth.
Endurance -In a glistening white patch of icy snow the scraggly, top stems of a bush push through the top of the snow's surface. The contrast between the dark branches and the white snow creates an overall simplicity to the image. Spring is some way off and the plant waits patiently for its new growth to emerge.
Nooks And Crannies On Cinnamon Swirl Wall -A huge cinnamon and orange rock face rises straight up from its lower reaches to top of the incline. The sedimentary hard rock's layers have been twisted and folded by subterranean uplifts and scraped and conditioned by flows of water. Any niche where a growing thing might set its feet is filled with vegetation, both bushes, and small trees. One imagines that some crew of men has shaped these rough sways of stone, but they are the product of natural forces big and small.
