Long Nights Journey Into Day - In the sky, looking more like the moon than the sun, is the cloud shrouded sun. Newly risen it lies behind pale shredded clouds. More wispy clouds on the right form the shape of a huge bird. The sky is dark blue and the light of the whole scene is dark as in twilight or very early morning in a sub zero climate. In the foreground lies a paved road leading deep into the terminus of the focal point. No vehicles can be seen on the road. It is desolate. To the right and behind a haphazard fence lies a shallow snow covering dotted with vegetation pushing through,

Belly Laugh Barn- An old gracefully falling apart large Red Barn with a speckled black and grey roof stands at the edge of a green field with grey clouds above. The Shining's Haunt-A large building is silhouetted by the evening's deep, dark sky. Large lights partially illuminate the front edifice of the building, and the roof. Cars are parked in the parking lot at the front of the building. The cars reflect, fitfully, the light from the building giving the vehicles a hard and dangerous reality. The whole scene is dangerous, but in the middle of the picture is a large open door out of which streams a warm fluid light beckoning you to enter. But to what fate ...?

On the side of a building is pained a seated young man with a lit match in his hand. This implied Anarchist had redish-purple trousers, and a checked red and yellow shirt. A partially visible, large green buildings in the background and crisscrossing electric wires, grounds this image as a deeply urban one. One is left wondering what the intent of the artist was and how he was able to paint this provocative yet seemingly peaceful image.

Elegance: The Copper Corner -An elegant corner of a room containing a tapered beaten copper chimney. To one side several plush and comfortable red cushioned chairs have between them a small lamp and table. The lamp reflects a warm light across the wooded floor. In the forefront of the image sits the partial image of a chair with a patterned back cushion and a well worked wooded chair arm. Halfway up the far wall runs a dark green tapestry intersected with multiple colors showing a forest scene with animals and forest flowers. This could be a room in any far flung English Manor.

Elegant Relief -Elegantly folded towels line a stark green and white wall hanging on silver bathroom bars. On the green section of the wall, in a black/brownish fram, hangs a handwritten note with the drawn image of a flower. The greenish part of the wall is of a rough cloth and the white part of the wall is of very light green tiles. A dark brown and blue patten in the tile is found on the left and lower part of this bathroom scene. A toilet roll with its hanger is found at the bottom right of the image.

The Thin Filament Between You And The Donner Party -The scene is of a large room dominated by 3 huge window panels. The window panels are a crisscross of smaller windows fitted into wooden frames. On either side of the windows are multicolored drapes of an elegant, rich material. On the other side of the windows it is icy cold and a snow storm is raging blowing snow laden pine trees to and fro,. Ice clings to the outside edges of some of the windows. In the foreground, one is able to ascertain that there are an assortment of plush chairs and sofas. However the foreground is large dark. In the ceiling you can see the huge beams of wood that this building's structure is made of. In the middle of the ceiling is a half oval Art Deco light of orange hue, which looks like it is more for style than effect.

Bog Art -A very clean bathroom is festooned with a myriad of stickers, paint & graffiti covering everything except the walls, floors, ceiling, toilet, mirror and sink. The look is punk style with a sense of chaos, hardness... destruction. The elements of the room that are thus decorated use the dark but sober walls and floor as a frame to isolate the images from one another, giving one a pause to appreciate the hard drive of the punk style images. It is a balance. Chaos and calm.

Necanicum Slough -A calm river of water creates a canal in-between buildings and decks on each bank of the watery slough. The day is dark and grey as the sun is setting somewhere behind the lowering fog above the scene. Colorful apartments and houses make an appearance on the right side of the canal and lights festoon the balconies and array along the white picket fences running along the river. At the far end of the scene a strong looking, short bridge is set allowing traffic to pass from side to side. balconies

Too High To Jump Over - Cow And Moon -In the foreground a maverick cow grazes on the remaining harvest vegetation of last year's crop. His companion herd is someway away towards a farmhouse settlement. Juxtaposed with this single cow is a 2/3rds full moon at a great height above the pastoral scene below. The air appears calm and stable as we spy in the distance more farmhouses, a barn, and other settlements. It is early morning and the sun has not made a complete breakthrough in lighting up the area fully. Towards the back of the picture are velveteen hills smooth and flowing

Yaquina Lighthouse.-In the distance, lightly obscured by retreating fog, a long promontory of green vegetation-covered rock runs out to the sea. At the end of this spit of land is a striking white lighthouse with a jet black turret. The rocky sides of the promontory's cliffs are exposed revealing chalky, and grey-brown colors. Huge individual rocks have separated themselves from the bulk of the promontor., Standing alone in the seawater these castoffs look like an irregular henge of ancient stones. In the foreground is a pleasant beach. Its smooth tan sandbanks touched by sea waves. The waves appear acceptable to the few birds that ply the edge of the surf looking for edible flotsam.

Newport Oregon - July 2020
Sun, Be Not Proud -The image focuses on the "remains of the day" being engulfed, the by smothering relentlessness of gathering clouds. The sun struggles for life, for continuance, The distant reddish pink glow shows, however that the sun is not long for the world. That the sun will be snuffed out in that firey pool, at this particular spot, on this particular day. It will be brought down as surely as night follows day. In the foreground it is dark. These items; trees, valleys, lodges, and even parts of the atmosphere itself, have already forgotten the sun. Though that sun had been their constant companion for the last 12 hrs. Soon the sun will be replaced. Lights will strike out from the windows. Man will be master then. But fear not, you solar monotheist. The orb will return. Rested and Refurbished you will know the sun again ...In all your pallor.

Oasis In A Sea Of Stubble - A field of cropped dark yellow grass stretches out as far as the sky can see. Some remaining stands of grain in the front of the image betray that a many-acre grain crop had stood here not that long ago. The stubble left by the harvester is quite tall. In the middle of the field in the far distance is a small structure. Too small to be a living space, one wonders what its purpose is. A barbwire fence separates the roadway from the field. Will the field of stubble be turned under before the winter comes?

Diotisalvi's Other Creation In the center of a bright scene is an old brown wooden barn on its last legs. The left side of the barn is missing many planks, the roof is falling in and the whole structure is being held up by long wooded struts on the right side of the barn. Without the struts the barn would undoubtedly have collapsed by now. The front of the barn still maintains its dignity and gives the overall structure more coherence than it merits. Above the barn is a bright blue sky with fluffy white clouds. Surrounding the barn is short dry, groomed, hay stubble. Why is this barn being maintained one wonders?

A Foreboding Evening At Shire's Edge - A huge intense white-yellow orb glows on the horizon dispersing a strong orange-brownish light over the hills and surrounding scenes of this picture. The clouds, stretched thin in the sky, are overwhelmed by this light making them look more like brush strokes than something acquired through the lens of a camera. A well-manicured field dominates the foreground of the photo with a shack and farm implements at the field's edge.

Sky Fire In Raleigh Hills -A sky seemingly on fire scatters raw, sharp, redish, chinks of clouds across the heavens in the early evening. Has the sun collided with something and this fire is its last show? It is like the last dying breath from Smaug's lungs, Smaug having been felled by a bowman's arrow, Below the drama above, lies the tranquil, shrouded local market, oblivious to the catastrophicfic show above. Looking down the image but on the front side of the interior, we see a series of shelves filled with bottles of wine. Different kinds of foods are seen lining the far side of the interior, including a refrigerated section. Two large glass front doors are found at the mid point of the image. Tables and chairs are scattered around a seating area at the front of the image.

Some flowers are in the process of opening and others fully opened. Behind & semi-blurred we can see other purple flowers and many more Paintbrushes dotting the whole field of wildflowers. In the distance there is the slope of an off camera high-ground, covered with the semi obscured forest of pine trees. In the far distance, the rugged rocky heights of Mt Aix stands, with patches of snow in-between its unassailable peaks.

The Burning Bush - In a seemingly burnt out area of blackened trees and dried, brown needles there lies the untouched skeleton of a previous bush amid the dead trees and fire scorched ground. The orange/yellow bush skeleton is an intricate mass of intertwined slender branches. Behind this "Miracle Bush" lies a long, river created, valley with some green grasses growing in the lower reaches and drier grasses in the higher parts. To the left behind the bush are a few burnt, seemingly dead, trees with brown dead needles clinging to the branches. On the right side are jet black skeletons of several trees.

Further out opens up a large mowed grass field, with the turns and tracks of the plowing equipment apparent in the remaining stubble. Looking up and to the distance it can be seen that fog is moving in and around the tops of the trees. Moss on the trunk of the main tree is testament to the high moisture content of this grove near the Pacific Ocean. Ferns litter the forest floor.

Further out on the pacific we cans see a thick blanket of fog waiting for the right atmospheric conditions that would allow the fog to move in and once more blanket the whole coastal area. The Pacific Ocean itself is quite blue. Following down the coast from right to left we find some rocks, costal cast offs, in the water. A little distance on is the Pigeon Point Lighthouse standing tall in a majestic white. Back up to the front of the image a spindly pant grows with bright yellow flowers.

In The Shadow Of Climate Change - Fire Closure At Yosemite - A gathering of dried stocks with thistle-type crowns dominates the scene. The dried stocks are backed up by another plant's thin stems which have tiny dark green leaves. In the mid-ground on the left are some more, unusual bushes and other shrubs. The mountains surrounding this "plant mosaic" are obscured by a heavy amount of smoke in the air, This has been caused by fires burning throughout Yosemite National Park. The Park was closed to visitors because of the fires.

Purple Prose Amid The Rocks And Bones -m A purple flush of flowers adorn a short green plant settled in a bed of rocks, both big and small, with a scattering of old plant bones around. Spring has pushed this flowering plant out of the inhospitable surroundings to give a glimpse of abundant life to the barren Death Valley background. No doubt the plant's flourishing will be fleeting and in a few weeks the desert's searing heat will bring all such growth into crumbling desiccation that conceals next year's seeding

Nooks And Crannies On Cinnamon Swirl Wall -A huge cinnamon and orange rock face rises straight up from its lower reaches to top of the incline. The sedimentary hard rock's layers have been twisted and folded by subterranean uplifts and scraped and conditioned by flows of water. Any niche where a growing thing might set its feet is filled with vegetation, both bushes, and small trees. One imagines that some crew of men has shaped these rough sways of stone, but they are the product of natural forces big and small.

The empty seed pods are bunched and resemble stars all bundled together. The plant itself gives one to believe that it is hibernating and will reemerge some months down the road. Bursting forth with new growth.

A Gracefull Regression -A stark bank of white trees line the end of a snow-covered field. Behind them is a second line of half-size red bushes, In the rear, a brown scrub-covered hillock with snowy patches rises to meet the blue sky. In front of the white trees is a field still covered in snow with irrigation apparatus lying idle and seemingly abandoned.

Sailor's Delight -Timberline Lodge, Northern Oregon, USA. A sunset is creating a fiery scene in the clouds. The clouds are on fire and the sky is hot, the Lava-like clouds cast no light on the ground but merely reflect what is going on over the horizon, outside of this scene. No sun is visible. In the mid ground are dark pine trees standing. In the foreground is the roof of a building with an unusual chimney.

Having reached the end of the ocean, a group of Pelicans flying in formation find that they are running into another group of Pelicans flying information at a 90-degree angle to themselves. Just before the two lead Pelicans hit one another there is some recognition of the lead Pelccan recognizing himself through the eyes of the other. Is this real or is it a Pelican nightmare and the Pelican is about to wake up all tucked up in his nest? The person who figures that out will need to compare notes with Aristotle, Eratosthenes. and Euclid.

Pigeon Point Lighthouse, Santa Cruz California 1982
A still strongly standing yet very old and disheveled house stands in the middle of a grassy field. No roads, habitations, or buildings are anywhere near this freestanding dilapidated home. Probably one of the earliest homes established in the area It has a chimney and a vine entwirled roof. The vines that cover the roof and drape over one side of the farmhouse were most probably planted by the habitants of the building and have long survived their departure. Holes abound in the structure where there are missing planks of wood here and there. Above the house is a massive cloud formation in the form of a V that presents as having emanated from the farmhouse as the focal point.

Dust Bowl Lightning A sky made dark jet black by blowing and lofted topsoil that has obscured the mid-day sun from the flat terrain of this midwest State. The friction of the turbulent dust particles in the air generates static electricity resulting in the lighting discharges seen in the foreground. In the distance, there is a thin layer of light showing silhouettes of an old windmill and several lackluster bushes starving for sunlight and rainfall.

The Celestial Eye A turbulent mass of clouds obscures most of the sun from reaching the ocean below. But in between rough, boiling clouds, limited shafts of light are able to escape as shining spotlights onto the offshore rocks and ocean below making them dance within the scene. Lively waves crash upon the rocks and sandy shore. Seaside plants massively colonize the shoreline hills at the front of the image.

Uncountable stars festoon a dark sky in Yosemite Valley putting the notion that we are "alone in the universe" into a Vatican-like tautology. From a distance seeming like clouds, the huge star clusters of the Milky Way hang in mid-sky. A lone pine tree stands in the foreground directly blocking most of the view of the massive El Capitan monolith, which is on the left side of the image. To the right of the picture, the rim of Yosemite Valley slopes down to reach two of the rock upheavals known as The Three Sisters (One of the Sisters is missing when seen in the dark, from this vantage point at The Wawona Tunnel Pullout Parking area). Below The Sisters you can see the dully white waves of Bridal Veil Falls spilling copiously from the midpoint onto the valley floor below. The center of the shot brings a narrowing of the valley's view area to a far-off image of Half Dome and the high rocky reaches to Half Dome's left. These reaches still wear large patches of snow this cold mid-May night. This part of the image suggests "Come further there is more to see".
